The Styllatory Process - Page Two
Using modern Pyrex (TM) type of safety glass. The final product is similar to using period reproduction equipment, but will not reproduce what can be called the "full bouquet" of smell/notes which are achieved with Medieval style distillation.

The curcurbit (boiling flask) sits directly upon the electric hot plate, do not do this to reproduction glass. The alembic is replaced by the still head and the neck is replaced by the cooling column. The receiving flask is replaced by the separatory funnel.

You can see the red glow of the electric hot plate. The modern still tends to run hotter than the Medieval equipment. The separatroy funnel shows the collection of the distillate.

Up close view of the collection in the funnel. You can used modern equipment for public demonstrations where safety is a major factor or when it makes you feel more comfortable. The end product is similar but not the same.
